Charlie Sarault: Del 2- My father has always been my idol

Hermed del 2 af RSC media teams interview med Canadiske import Charlie Sarault.

1. What is your biggest Hockey experience, and the most difficult thing you have gone through as a player?
I’ve had so many great moments in my hockey career. If I had to pick one tho I think signing my NHL contract with the Anaheim Ducks was one of my proudest moments. Being recognized by the NHL I think is what every young player works so hard for and dreams to accomplish. At the same time tho I think making the transition from the OHL (junior hockey) to the AHL (pro hockey) was one of the hardest transitions I had to make at the age of 21. Everyone was so much bigger, faster and so much more experienced. Everyone could play the game so well and think very quickly on the ice. But these are normal transition you go through as hockey player. I still think the hardest part of being a hockey player is the stuff that you have to deal with off the ice. Such as leaving your loved ones, friends and family behind for 9 months. Or moving from country to country learning a new culture and life style. I don’t think that part ever gets easier, and it’s not every job where you have to do that. But you do it for the love of the game.

2. Almost everyone in life has an idol, or someone they really look up to in their choices of who they become or how they are as a person. Who is your biggest idol?
My father has always been my idol. He was always very involved in hockey and always had a great passion for the sport. I think he rubbed off on me very early age. Ever since I can remember my dad and I would sit down and watch the montreal Canadians play every Tuesday night. My mother and sister would be gone to her dance lessons and I knew that night was reserved for hockey with my dad. This was my favourite night of the week. In between periods, I would put on goalie pads and my dad would shoot tennis balls and I would pretend I was the Montreal Canadiens goalie making all these saves. I think it very easy to see how much I loved the game so my parents gave me every opportunity to succeed. Also living in Canada makes a big difference, the sport here is almost like religion. It’s like soccer for Europeans.

3. Could you tell us a little bit about your favorite NHL team and player, favorite Movie and Actor, any Nicknames you have gone buy throughout your career?
Growing up even though I was usually watching montreal play, my favorit player was mike fisher. That’s where the love for number 12 had originated. I loved how hard he worked and how honest he was in his game at both end of the ice. He seemed like a good team guy who didn’t take any shortcuts. The only problem was that when montreal would play against Mike fisher I never really knew who to cheer for. I am really into thrillers or crime movies. Movies with a twist at the end. My favorite actor is Leonardo Dicaprio. I think he is the best, all his movies keep you on the edge of your seat. The movie “Catch me if you can” is one of my all time favorites. My real name is Charles Sarault, but most people call me Charlie. And the nickname for Charlie is “chuck” or “Chucky” so I have been called those two names during my whole hockey career.

4. What are Hobbies and how do you spend your offseason?
During the summer I have many hobbies, I like to play a lot of beach volley ball, get on the boat with my family and occasionally go golfing with my friends. I try to spend as much time as I can with them as I leave for a long period of time during hockey season.

5. Are you coming to Denmark alone or are you taking a wife or girlfriend along with you?
I will be coming to Denmark on my own. My girl friend and some of my family will be visiting me at some point during the year though.
